She could not know, however, the damage the Church has done in refusing to hear the cries of other gay Catholics who cannot get their stories heard as hers was at St. Michael's parish hall before the archbishop. She cannot know the damage of those who, in denying who they are, in trying to be who the Church would have them be, have struggled with alcoholism, debilitating depression, substance abuse and suicide. These stories never get told.
