I am not familiar with the African mentality. But what disturbs me about church and limits my belief in what Michael Czerny has shared is the continued reluctance of the official church to denounce its patriarchal views of sex -the continued power of men over women. And the Vatican's continued fear of letting women's roles be discussed and expanded. It would be a breath of fresh air to have the Vatican call those men for whom power is the password to take a responsible, relational role toward sexuality so that each person is sacred. Maybe the role of women in the church would then be a total involvement. We need to to show a world of selfishness a role of treating each person as precious gift in the community of human kind. It involves a deep spirituality that leads us to being loved passionately by our God. We would then see that God in each other. Condoms would not be the scary issue they are in leading people to maturity to God.
